This was the first time I’ve owned a Kindle and the software, apps and design of the tablet in my opininon was not user friendly. The tablet itself was beautiful in terms of esthetics and also how it felt in my hands. A really nice device, but it had it’s limitations. Plus, in order to enjoy the Kendal Fire you really have to be totally connected or integrated if you will with the Amazon experience. I like Amazon don’t get me wrong, but owning a tablet that is integrated so deeply with the manufactuer just didn’t appeal to me.

Of course, after purchasing the Nook Tablet from Barnes and Noble, it too went the same way as Amazon. At first, owners were able to add some apps to the device, but after the most recent update to the device, it basically left the device as nothing but an ereader. Users have to install and purchase apps only from Barnes and Noble. Additionally, you can’t add any apps to the device which includes the Google Market or Amazon Market unless it’s purchased from Barnes and Noble. However, the techno geeks were quick to find a solution to these issues. Of course, that made me very happy because it freed up the device to be used as a mini-netbook per se. I will leave those websites below the post if you want to check them out. I do warn you that the procedures to “root” or “hack” your Nook Tablet is not for the faint of heart. I believe there is also a hack available for the Kindle Fire, but since I no longer own it I had no need to research the fix.

Noticeable Differences Kindle Fire vs Nook Tablet

Design: The Kindle Fire’s design resembles the Blackberry Playbook in texture, feel and design. It is black all over, slick and shiny which means it is a fingerprint and dust magnet. The Nook Tablet looks the same as the Nook Color, with the only difference being the color of the device. Instead of the darker gray trim around the display screen, the Nook Tablet’s frame is a lighter gray.

Storage: The Kindle Fire comes with 8GB of internal storage with no expansion slot. Users can use up to 6GB of the storage and anything else will require use of the Amazon Cloud. In fact, because users can store their documents, video, music, etc in the Amazon Cloud there was no need to offer storage expansion. On the Nook Tablet, there is 16GB of internal storage, but only 13GB can be accessed by the user. It breaks down to 1GB for personal use and the remaining 12GB for content purchased from the Barnes and Noble store. There is also the option of adding up to 32GB of memory via the MicroSD card slot on the device.

Processor: Both devices have a 1GHz dual core processor. However, the differences between the two devices comes down to the amount of RAM installed.has twice the memory as the Kindle Fire with 1 GB of RAM. Because of the increase in RAM by the Nook Tablet makes multitasking, web browsing, and other activities a lot faster and smoother. The Kindle Fire comes with 512MB of RAM while the Nook Tablet has 1GB. Both are WiFi only, come with the Android processor, but modified for the manufacturer and both has the same display resolution 1024 x 600.

Browser: Amazon is really proud of the Amazon Silk browser on the Kindle Fire. It is designed to predictively load webpages to provide a fast and seamless browsing experience for the user. However, the Silk browser is slower than the Nook Tablet because it seems as though Amazon will need to acquire more data from users in order to achieve the predictive loading status that Amazon claims will enhance the Silk experience. The Nook Tablet has nothing special about it’s browser.

Store Selection: If you are wanting to buy apps for your device, Amazon is the leader with the number of apps boasting about 10,000. However, it does not have as many as the Apple Store. However, it does outnumber the offerings from Barnes and Noble which I’m told is about 2, 000 apps. As I mentioned before, both devices have shut down users ability to load third party apps onto the devices. Depending on which device you own, if an app, music, book, magazine, newspaper, movie or video is not approved or purchased from Amazon or Barnes and Noble you cannot place it on your device. When you try, you will get an error message stating only apps from Barnes and Noble can be loaded.

Because the Google Marketplace has over 300,000 apps it makes it advantageous to have it installed. Both the Nook Tablet and Kindle Fire have access to Hulu Plus, Netflix, Pandora, and other major streaming services. The Kindle Fire comes with a free 30-day trial of Amazon Prime, which means you can stream all the television shows and movies you want for free. After that, if you purchase, Amazon Prime will cost you $79 per year, plus you get free two day shipping when you buy from Amazon.

Power and battery life: The charger that comes with the Kindle Fire is an all in one piece with the micro-USB on one end and wall socket prongs on the other. If you want to sync files, you will have to purchase another USB-to-microUSB cable in order to connect the device to a computer. The Nook Tablet’s charging cord comes in two pieces, the micro USB cord and the wall adapter. You can separate the two and use the cord to connect the device to your computer. Battery life for the Kindle Fire is 7.5 hours with WiFi off and only 6 hours with WiFi on. On the other hand, the Nook Tablet gets by with 9 hours during video play and 11.5 hours for reading.

Books: The Nook Tablet has an advantage over the Kindle Fire because it supports ePub, the e-book format that allows users to load books on several devices. The Kindle Fire is closed to ePub books, so purchasers of the Kindle Fire can only purchase and enjoy books from Amazon. The only way to change this is to be able to add third party apps that will expand your choices in books that can be downloaded onto the Kindle Fire.

Take a look at the comparison table below. Unfortunately, no data was provided for the Kindle tablets, but the tabel does give you an idea of the features and other information for you to make an informed decision.

The new Color Kindle is one of the best selling touch screen tablets once it was announced to the world. The tablets were pre-ordered and even then it was a hit. The Kindle Fire is the fourth generation of the Kindle family. Did you happen to pre-order yours? I did. After watching a video of the demo for Amazon’s newest tablet to the ongoing tablet war, I had to have one. Now, I do have a Nook Color, but unfortunately I am not satisfied with it. That’s terrible isn’t it? However, it’s the truth.

I am prepared to tell you why the Kindle Fire is the way to go if you are seriously considering a tablet for a family member or close friend. It is really an exciting and awesome device. The next question is whether it is an iPad killer. I’m not for sure because the iPad has a lot going for itself in terms of apps, size, popularity and usefulness and not to mention a whole lot of sales under its belt. The reason the Kindle Fire is so special is that:

It’s portable. It is 7 inches in length and can easily be carried in your hand, purse or book bag. I like that aspect of it already. Amazon is still showing consideration to the consumer and practicality.

The device is in color. This not only gives the Nook Color some competition but will advance Amazon’s hold on the 7 inch tablet market. Amazon’s Kindle is already the number one selling portable tablet in the market. What do you think the Kindle Fire will do for their sales? It has been long anticipated and the diehard tablet enthusiasts have asked for it.

Cost wise it is to die for. All the rumors had put the Kindle Fire up to $399 dollar price tag, but Amazon managed to keep the price reasonable under $200 dollars.

The above reasons are why I gingerly worked my wallet out of my pocket and ordered the Kindle Fire. Now, for the best part, the delicious tidbits. Did you know the device has the following features?

A dual core 1GHz, TI OMAP processor, 512MB of memory, 8GB of internal storage, a 7″ multi-touch display with IPS (in-plane switching) technology with extra wide viewing angle and anti-reflective treatment, 1024 x 600 pixel resolution at 169 ppi,16 million colors. It also has a USB port for charging the device.

Plays movies and video, has fast responsive full desktop web browsing, games (a version of the ever popular Angry Birds has been thrown in); listen to music, read newspapers, books and magazines. It has all the functions of the Kindle, but in color and more fun stuff added.

Has some multi-tasking functionality: While playing music, you look at the album cover, view the music track playing and you can go to the main screen to browse the web, adjust the device’s settings and pause or fast forward your music track to name a few, all while continuing to listen to your music.

You get one month free Prime Membership: If you have a Prime membership you get access to over 10,000 commercial free movies and TV shows. The Prime membership is a program that provides consumers unlimited FREE Two-Day shipping and One-day shipping for $3.99 per item on eligible Amazon purchases for an annual fee.

Display has vibrant multi-touch functionality which includes the ability to pinch and zoom.

Users will have access to over 17 million songs, Android apps

You can pin your favorite apps, video, books or website to the Bookmark Shelf located in the lower portion of the display. This is done with a simple touch of your finger.

Really neat feature. If you’re watching a movie, you can pause it and then resume playing the movie on your instant video compatible device, such as a ROKU video streaming player or TIVO recorder/player. Very nice indeed.

Want to look for new content? All the Amazon stores are just a click away: Music, bookstore, video, apps or newsstand.

When you first turn on the Kindle Fire you will see your name in the upper left corner which is where all your content is kept on the Amazon Cloud server. All content such as, your books, magazines or music purchased from the Amazon store is automatically loaded onto the Cloud server which saves your storage space on the device. The Cloud offers unlimited storage with you being able to delete documents, music, etc. when you want.

So, is the Kindle Fire Tablet Really that Great?

Well, it doesn’t have a microphone, camera, 3G only Wi-Fi and has only eight hours of battery life. Additionally, some consumers and reviewers of the device have expressed concern over privacy and reliability issues with the Amazon Cloud service. Additionally, some consumers are questioning the Amazon Fire’s low price point which may indicate that Amazon intends to make it up in online digital sales to Kindle Fire owners.

Although, no touch screen tablet is perfect, the Amazon Kindle Fire is off to a good start and deserves consideration. If you loved your Kindle and the features it offers, you will love this tablet also.

What’s the Cloud? Ok, we’re excited about the new Kindle Fire, but what about this Cloud storage that’s been dropped on us? Amazon says owners of their new Kindle 4 won’t need to be concerned about storage simply because all the content on the device is backed up on the Cloud server.

The term Cloud causes you to envision this huge white cream puff factor out there with all of your stuff in it. However, nonetheless one has to wonder what is the Cloud and what exactly does it do?

On the surface one would believe that Amazon’s cloud service is just a type of online internet based storage service for Kindle Fire users. However, it’s considerably more than that. It really is in fact a web based music player, known as the Cloud Player hosted by Amazon and also a storage system referred to as the Cloud Drive.

Consumers are in a position to place media such as MP3s, videos, movies, periodicals and documents on the Cloud. Music stored on the Cloud can be downloaded from a personal computer or purchased and downloaded from Amazon and then listened to by way of the Cloud Player.

The Cloud Drive is totally free for anyone to use. Amazon item buyers can use unlimited storage space for storing media and periodicals without having to utilize storage space on their mobile devices. In essence, buyers get unlimited storage space within the Cloud for content purchased from Amazon. The Cloud drive has been in existence for awhile, but recently gained national attention with the recent debut of Amazon’s new tablet, the Kindle Fire.

[amzn_product_inline asin='B0051VVOB2']

For instance, using the new Kindle Color, it comes pre-registered using the buyer’s Amazon account and all content on the device is backed up on the Cloud. Users can delete and re-download content any time. The other neat feature with Cloud storage is that if you are watching a video on your tablet, you’ll be able to pause it after which resume watching it from a HDTv or any Instant Video Compatible Device such as the Roku or Tivo.

Any individual utilizing the Cloud Drive gets 5GB of storage space for their Amazon purchases. Even so, if they save an item on the drive that has not been bought via Amazon, the user begins losing some of their 5GB of storage space. At some point, if they run out of space, they are going to have to begin paying a monthly fee to continue to use the service.

At the moment, for a limited time frame, Amazon is providing users of its Kindle device 15GB of storage space to consumers inside the United States that acquire music from the Amazon MP3 store. This means shoppers can acquire a total of 20GB of storage space instead of the usual 5GB. Even so, purchasing Amazon’s merchandise is optional for access to the Cloud. All customers have to do is acquire a sign on after which they can upload music already stored on their computer to the Cloud without having to pay anything for making use of it.

Regardless of your location, for those who have an Internet connection, you can access the Cloud Drive. It also doesn’t matter the number of devices you might use to access the Cloud including a smartphone or tablet. It really is like accessing a membership website, but in this case you have the ability to manage your storage by generating folders to organize your files and media.

Consumers access to the Cloud storage works with any PC or MAC PC. Though, users have access to their files and are in a position to download them, they can only use a PC or Mac to upload content to the Cloud.

Further, if accessing music to play or download from the Cloud Player or Drive, users will have to utilize their PC, MAC or an Android OS device. Other mobile devices not equipped with the Android OS cannot access the Cloud at this time. For now, the most exciting attributes of the Kindle Fire and Amazon Cloud Storage are geared towards the US only, as a result of legal concerns.

[amzn_product_inline asin='B0051VVOB2']

Pricing for further Cloud storage is provided through tier based pricing. By way of example, 20GB of storage goes for $20 a year, 100GB for $100 a year and other tier pricing plans obtainable to fit the requirements of every person.

It has been compared to the BlackBerry Playbook based on looks and feel. The main comparison is to the RIM hardware. The Amazon Kindle Fire is a great e-reader and tablet rolled into one device and is easy to transport.

The performance of the software and apps are great and reacts very well as anticipated. Getting the most attention, is the silk browser which has been described as being super fast because of the way it is set up. When accessed, the browser processing is split between the device and the Amazon Cloud server. Can the new Kindle 4 be a serious contender in the tablet warfare? Yes, it is already getting off to a great start because of it’s appearance, portability and most importantly the price. It will be sold through Amazon since it is one of the new ereader tablets Amazon is releasing. The device is considerably less than the iPad and not to mention the Nook Color and Nook Tablet.

The Kindle Color comes with 8 GB of internal storage and a beautiful 1024 x 600 IPS extra-wide viewing display. Weighing in at 14.6 ounces, the Kindle Color is a lightweight device that can be held in one hand. The Kindle Fire measures 7.5 x 4.7 x 0.45 inches, making it easy to carry in a purse or book bag.

What Is The Kindle Fire?

On September 28, 2011, Amazon.com announced a new product line of the Kindle family. The new device that has everyone excited is the Kindle Fire, a color device that allows users to read books, watch TV shows and movies, read magazines, play games, use apps and surf the web. The Kindle Fire was released on November 21, 2011. As for Amazon, it has been successful with its previous Kindle products and the new Kindle Color is another one that is sure to be a success. It is already the number one best seller in Electronics on the Amazon website with the previous generation of Kindle coming in second on the list. As you can see, the Kindle Fire has several terms that it is being referred to such as the Kindle Color, which mimics the Barnes and Noble’s Nook Color and Nook Tablet. The question is, does it perform the same as the new Nook Tablet? Just how much do the three tablets compare to each other?

However, the comparison actually is with the iPad 2, but that is not a correct assessment. Although, the Kindle Fire could be a competitor, but not to the point technology enthusiasts is making the Kindle Color to be. If anything, the Kindle Fire is a strong competitor for the Nook Color and Nook Tablet. It already has several pluses that the Nook Color does not. For example, the price. The ability to save all content on the Amazon Cloud, the Gorilla Glass display, faster processor, apps and the fact that the Kindle Fire’s UI will be ran on top of a modified Android OS.

The obvious huge negative for the Kindle Fire is that it does not provide the consumer the option to expand it’s memory. Plus, it would have been nice to have a camera and mic for video chat, but statistics show these features are not really in demand because most consumers use their smartphones or computers.

The Kindle Fire allows you to access more than 18 million pieces of media, including movies, magazines, newspapers, television programs, applications and games. It has a 7-inch screen, the device displays vibrant colors. Navigating through the Web makes Amazon Silk, a browser built by the company to provide faster page loads and transit times when the Kindle Fire is used to browse the Internet. The device also comes with 8GB of internal storage which will hold approximately 80 applications, 10 movies, 800 songs or 6,000 books. Battery life is not as good as the other Kindle versions, but then the other Kindle versions cannot perform in the same way as the new Kindle Color.

Amazon Silk known as Dynamic Split Browsing is the web browser for the new Kindle Fire tablet. It is designed for speed to enhance users’ web browsing experience. One half of Silk is described as being nestled inside the Kindle Color and the other half is on Amazon’s EC2 (Elastic Cloud Computing) server, the muscle that makes Silk work.

When a user clicks on a webpage, the request is routed through the Amazon Cloud servers and then Amazon’s EC2 furnishes the speed to optimize the loading time for web pages. The web content is reportedly delivered in milliseconds instead of what we’ve all grown accustomed to websites loading in just seconds.

On the surface, it sounds great but when you look closer, there are some privacy and security concerns expressed about Amazon’s Silk that may cause some consumers to pause before jumping with both feet onto the Silk bandwagon. This article will discuss the privacy concerns being expressed with the Silk web browser.

When surfing users do not go directly to a website. When a website visitor navigates to a webpage, Silk gives a portion of the work load to the EC2 to speed up load time, which means the user is connecting to Amazon instead of the actual website. Under full disclosure, Amazon admits in the Amazon Silk’s Terms and Conditions, “Therefore, like most Internet service providers and similar services that enable you to access the Web, the content of web pages you visit using Amazon Silk passes through our servers and may be cached to improve performance on subsequent page loads.” If you use the Silk browser (default mode for the Kindle Fire), all web surfing will go through the Amazon servers before the website is viewed by the user.

Are you aware that your information is stored on Amazon’s server. Amazon will have a record of everything you do on the web. The Amazon Silk’s Terms and Conditions reveals that web addresses for web pages, users IP and MAC addresses that enter Amazon’s servers are temporarily logged and can be kept no more than 30 days on the servers. Amazon’s explanation is that this is done to troubleshoot and diagnose Amazon Silk technical issues.

The Patriot Act, what does it have to do with the Silk browser? Because Amazon has a cache of user information on their servers, the government could request the data if the user is under investigation. However, rumor has it the government is at odds on how they would even begin to secure a warrant for user data stored online. Further, under The Patriot Act, the government can prevent Amazon from notifying targeted individuals that their data is being turned over to them. And, because Amazon possess user information, it too can be used however they wish.

Are my HTTPS connections safe using Silk? If you use your Kindle Fire to view an online financial account using the secure HTTPS connection, Amazon acts as the “middleman” between the user and your secured connection. Amazon, in their defense states that Silk will facilitate a direct connection from the Cloud server with the secure connection and device user.

Any security provided to the user will still exist when going to the secure website. This means that Amazon will install a trusted certificate in the Silk browser that will allow a “middle man” SSL proxy that will accelerate SSL browsing. It also means that Amazon will have a record of the communication, but not the content since it will be encrypted.

Silk’s Search engines collects your info also. All text you enter into Silk’s address bar is sent to a default search engine on Amazon’s Cloud. The initial default search engine is selected by Amazon, but it can be changed without notice to you. Users have the option of changing their search engine, but Amazon’s privacy policy will still apply, which means they can still collect information from you based on the information you search.

Believe it, you do have a choice. Users of the Kindle Fire can choose to operate Silk in Basic or Off-Cloud mode. Off-cloud mode allows web pages to go directly to the device rather than passing through Amazon’s Cloud servers. However, the consequence is that you won’t be able to capitalize on the fast web page delivery the Cloud’s
computing services offer.

Many websites and ISPs are hosted on EC2. Because of this relationship with other Internet providers and websites, a large amount of web requests won’t leave the extended infrastructure of the AWS (Amazon Web Services) which provides faster web page loading.

Why Amazon Silk? It’s very simple. If Amazon can deliver content to users in milliseconds, the more content users will want. The ultimate goal is to provide better consumer access to Amazon’s selection of content services which includes: Amazon Instant Video streaming movies and TV shows, Amazon Cloud Player streaming music service, Amazon’s Kindle bookstore and applications served from Amazon’s Android App Store.

[amzn_product_inline asin='B0051VVOB2']

Amazon is betting on this and even uses something they call “collaborative filtering” and “machine learning algorithms” that helps with consumer product ecommendations something that is already practiced on their website. For example, when users are browsing the Amazon site or even making a purchase, on the same page they are met with a section that states, “Customers who bought this, also bought. . .” in an effort to get you to purchase more stuff.

It appears the Kindle Fire is not a device that is geared for content and won’t replace your laptop. It is obvious the device is for digital media enjoyment and not necessarily for performing business presentations and the like. Amazon has been instrumental in creating a device and environment where it will be easy for users to become totally consumed in the vast offerings of books, video and music that Amazon provides.

Regarding privacy and security concerns, these may have already been handled by Amazon with the Kindle Fire’s security settings. Plus, Amazon did not invent the split browser concept; the mobile version of the Opera Mini browser has used the process for quite some time. Therefore, the issues with privacy and security may be a moot point.

Once users have the device in hand, possibly that may be the time they weigh in on whether Amazon logging user data information on their server is more important than just saying no to speedy millisecond web page loading. However, it still pays to know what to expect before your new Kindle Color arrives at your doorstep. It is understood that the Kindle Fire is not a device for business presentations or word processing document revisions, but it is a content provider. Be it movies, video, music or periodicals. It is an entertainer or if nothing more than a delightful time waster.

Still think the Kindle Fire is the best thing since the introduction of the iPad? Pre-order you one now before they are sold out. Currently, the Kindle Fire is the number one bestselling tablet on Amazon. Go take a look! [amzn_product_inline asin='B0051VVOB2']

With the new version of the iPad now available, many people are quick to ask, “Why should I buy the iPad 2?” Is it really worth buying the new model when there are other tablets on the market that are just as comparable to the new iPad 2?

Current iPad owners really have to weigh whether it is really worth upgrading their device especially since Apple announced the first generation iPad January 2010 and began shipping the units in April 2010. Now, we have the iPad 2 which began shipping March 2011. Apple is making upgraded iPads a little too soon of the previous one. Well, the question is should you buy the new iPad 2? Here are 7 good reasons why you should:

You Have To Have The Latest Greatest Thing: Not everyone will admit it, but there are millions of people out there who line up at the Apple Store on release date simply because they love to have the latest greatest thing before everybody else. Even if you haven’t gone to that extreme, the iPad 2 is still a “must-have” gadget! You will be disappointed and missing out if you don’t get your hands on one.

It Won’t Cost Any More Than You Paid For The Original iPad: Apple has decided to price the iPad 2 at exactly the same price as the original model, which means you’re not going to have to pay any more money for getting a sleeker design, front and back cameras, faster operating system and much, much more.

You Already Use iTunes or Have An iPhone: There’s no denying that there are plenty of rival tablets out there to choose from, but if you already use other Apple devices, and software like iTunes, then you’ll find that it makes a lot more sense to stick with the iPad 2. What’s more, if you already have apps for your iPhone or iPod Touch, you can find many of the same apps available for the iPad 2.

You Need A Camera: If you already have the original iPad but find that you need a camera (whether for video calling, taking photographs, shooting movies, etc) then the iPad 2 is definitely the solution for you. The new cameras on the front and back of the device are its main new features. If you held off buying the iPad because it didn’t have a camera or you miss the camera functionality on the original device, then the iPad 2 is the answer for you.

You Want A Large Choice of Apps: Although there are a number of other tablets on the market, pretty much none of them have as many app choices as the iPad. There are hundreds of thousands of iPad apps available in the Apple App store (300,000 to be exact) and more are being developed every day. This is a huge advantage when it comes to choice, and the new iOS operating system upgrade brings even more potential in the form of speed to access all of these apps you may choose for your device.

You Want A Gyroscope For Better Gaming: Although the word gyroscope might not mean anything to you, what it can bring to the iPad 2 might. The iPad 2 now features an added gyroscope for a much more accurate motion sensor. This means that a number of games and apps will become even better! A gyroscope is basically a sensor that helps the accelerometer in telling the OS how the tablet is being moved. A gyroscope is able to measure orientation, which an accelerometer is not. Because of gravity though, which is a constant downwards acceleration, an accelerometer can do some of the things that a gyroscope can- basically by knowing which was is down.

You Don’t Already Have An iPad: Besides, wanting to upgrade your first generation iPad, another major reason why you would choose to buy the iPad 2 is if you don’t already own an iPad. The success of the original iPad has shown the critics that this really is a useful, stylish, easy to use and worthwhile device that truly has a place on the market.

These are some great reasons to seriously consider owning the new iPad. Why haven’t you got one yet? You should do it now!

Contemporary electronic gadgets have gained such great popularity these days especially in part because they extend their functionality by using additional applications or apps. Apple recently launched iPhone and iPod have virtually pioneered the industry of third-party applications development. In fact, the incredible appeal of these devices is primarily based on all the awesome functions that can be added to them quickly and easily.

The iPad continues the tradition with an impressive application App Store to help the user in creating the most amazing iPad of their dreams. Apple’s iPad App Store has more than 300,000 downloadable applications that are compatible with the iPad. The App Store makes everything available in useful business applications to mind blowing games. Simply click on the App Store icon on the main menu and you will be presented with an easy to use, fast loading search menu which will allow you to install the right application for your needs.

One element that is available in this exciting genre of handheld electronic devices is the ability to download full-featured e-books from major publishers and authors. Because the applications are compatible with popular e-readers on the market, this makes reading e-books very exciting. This is just part of what the new iPad 2 has to offer. It is not only known for its great applications, but has been updated to include more features that were considered lacking from the first generation iPad.

The new 2 iPad is 33% thinner and 15% lighter which is about .2 pounds. Inside the iPad 2 are two cameras, a gyroscope and a new dual-core processor, which Apple says will double the speed with the same power as the current iPad. Apple will first release a Wi-Fi only version. Afterwards, 3G only versions for AT & T and Verizon, as well as the 64 GB Wi-Fi and 3G model. Prices for all models are the same as the old iPad. The new accessories include a high definition HDMI adapter and a case which is a clever innovation that is attached to the device by magnets.

The original iPad hit the stores on April 3, 2010, which makes the current device obsolete and probably outdated for some users. Of course as with any new product release, customers will not be disappointed because the features that were lacking in the previous model have been included in the new device.

The current owners of an iPad can sell their current model and improve or even change to a different manufacturer. Other interesting applications available through the Apple iPad Store are Google maps which are awesome and incredibly easy to use. Further, the apps include a fully functional apps notes, calendar and contacts that will compete with any BlackBerry on the market. It is this type of business and personal applications that will appeal to the combined audience of households and business apps users.

Tablet

Although a number of manufacturers, using a number of different operating systems, are now coming up with excellent choices for tablet computers, the main tablet PC comparison for most potential buyers still comes down to the Apple iPad’s iOS and various Google Android tablets. Which of these systems, if either, is the right one for you?

Interface: The experts largely agree that Apple’s iOS works very well as a tablet and smartphone operating system. Things work as you expect them to on the iPad – especially if you’ve previously used an iPhone or iPod Touch. This is what makes the iPad such a great tablet. The interface is probably iOS’s strongest feature.

Apps: The Apple iPad has the largest selection of apps. There are over 300,000 apps available to buy or download for free from the Apple Store. You can almost guarantee that when companies and individuals create an app, they do it first for the Apple Store and then for the other markets. But this doesn’t mean Apple has the only notable app store – the Android Market is quickly catching up.

Android does have a major feature to its advantage when it comes to apps, the operating system is open which means the Android can be modified easier than a proprietary operating system. The Apple App Store, by contrast, controls everything that goes into it. This means that any apps created have to be geared only for the Apple products, nothing else will work with the devices. For the Android operating system, creativity is encouraged because the software is open and can be manipulated not only by developers, but by hackers. The Android has over 100,000 apps available to its tablet and smartphone users, and with time will eventually catch up with Apple.

Hardware: There is not much difference in the hardward between the two tablets per se. The exception would be weight and in some tablets height. Additionally, the number of ports on the tablets. The iPad does not have any way of expanding memory or any additonal ports except the docking port. Android tablets, depending on which one you choose come equipped with the important ports that allows transfer of files and memory expansion.

It’s unfortunate, the Galaxy Tab in its attempt to compete with the iPad has basically the same hardware where there are no ports on the device except the connection port to recharge the battery. There are no USB or HDMI ports and no slots for SD or SIM carrds which is the same for the Apple iPad.

Android, on the other hand, is featured in the tablets of a wide range of manufacturers. From Samsung to Motorola, you’ve a lot more freedom to choose a tablet that meats your exact specifications and budget. This does mean you have to be more careful though. Some manufacturers have tweaked Android for the better, whereas some may not work as flawlessly and may still be based on older Android releases.

Conclusion

At this point in time, the iPad is still the most popular tablet in the marketplace, but others are quickly gaining in popularity. The open market can only be a good thing for consumers, who now have more scope to find exactly what they’re looking for from a tablet computer. Many still prefer the Apple iOS, especially if it’s what they’re already used to, but it ultimately comes down to doing a tablet PC comparison yourself, by testing them out and choosing the one that feels right for you.
